The word is the most perfect means of communication. The novelty is achieved by the word. As time passes modern people are not achieving literacy. MS Word and newfangled gadgets help us to write “correctly”. Programs correct errors, but not all. The ability of a person to think about the correct writing of the text is losing; there is no desire to increase the level of knowledge of the language.

How can writing skills be improved? Teachers of the Russian language of the Pedagogical Institute of Astana International University have answered to this question. To draw students' attention to the issues of writing literacy, philologists G.K. Kozhagulova and T.D. Abzhakov organized a competition of dictations “Literacy in writing” for 1st year students with the Kazakh language of instruction, in which 947 students took part.

Dictation as a type of activity is relevant and effective in the work on the formation of spelling and punctuation literacy of students. With the systematic use of different types of dictations, it is possible to achieve high results in the formation of competent writing. During the competition, the organizers of the event set goals: to form a fashionable direction in acquiring literacy, introduced students to the criteria for evaluating dictations. The motto of the event was the words: “Writing correctly is trendy!”.

Thus, within the framework of the decade of the Russian language, the first round of the Literacy Writing competition was launched, with the aim of increasing the level of literacy in the field of Russian language proficiency. Philology teachers determined in their groups the most literate, without erroneously writing student. After 100% enrollment of first-year students, 65 students were selected to participate in the 2nd round of the competition (1 person from the group).

In the 2nd round, the contestants were offered an excerpt from M. Shakhanov's work "The Steppe - the Keeper of History" for writing. Following the results of checking dictations, there were practically no mistakes recorded, only 13 students have made mistakes. The touching excitement of the winners was replaced by the joy of achieving success, because they did an excellent job.

In a solemn atmosphere, the organizers announced the results of the final round of the competition. The winners were waiting for awards. With words of congratulations and gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event, Akhmadiyeva Zhanna Kuanyshevna, Deputy Director of the Pedagogical Institute, presented the certificates:

A 1st year student of the educational program 6B01708 "Kazakh language and literature" Utegenova Anar Zhambulkyzy participated in the "Izdenimpaz journalist" competition provided by the Kazakhstan Youth Congress from November 19 to December 3, 2022, where she won the second place. We sincerely congratulate our student on her victory!

On December 12, 2022 at 15.00 at the Astana International University, a guest lecture was held by Zhabagin Maksat, Candidate of Biological Sciences, PhD, Head of the Laboratory of Human Genetics of the National Center for Biotechnology, on the topic “The tribal structure of the Kazakhs in the prism of genetics”. Students of biology and ecologists took an active part in the lecture. It should be noted that in October of this year a cooperation agreement was signed with the National Center for Biotechnology. The practical scientists of the Center are involved not only in educational activities, but also work on the implementation of a joint scientific project with our university.

On December 5, 2022, 1st year undergraduates of Astana International University majoring in Geography, Biology, Management, history, psychology, foreign language, international relations, physics, mathematics, Chemistry held an action "Let's give a book to the Library", organized by senior lecturer, PhD of the Higher School of Social Sciences Ulbosyn Utegenovna Aimbetova "More than 60 people donated textbooks and works of world classics. Each master's student briefly outlined his read books and provided them to the librarian. This book is a mirror of virtue and spirituality. We hope that this action will continue.

Within the framework of the signed memorandum between Green Tal LLP and the Higher School of Economics, the Social Innovation Laboratory has been operating at Astana International University since September 2022. The purpose of the laboratory is to involve university students in the development of social projects and social entrepreneurship.

During the period from September to December of this year, such events were held as: an organizational meeting with students on the issue of interest in the topic of social entrepreneurship, the participation of the head of the Laboratory Okutaeva S.T. and the director of development Green Tal Kabdykesheva D.S. as members of the jury at the competition of social projects of the School of Social Entrepreneurship "Өрелі ұрпақ", an application for the competition was submitted Alumni Grants Program from the American Embassy to conduct the project "Laboratory of Social Innovation" on the basis of the laboratory, guest lectures were held with the founder of social entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan Emin Askerov and a social entrepreneur on environmental protection, the founder of the company "BioPack.kz" by Miras Abbasov, an interactive on the topic of social projects was held for 1st year students of the Higher School of Economics. According to the scientific block of works, an application was submitted to the GF of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic "Development and approbation of methods of employment of socially vulnerable segments of the population", № AP19676100, a scientific article was published by S.T. Okutaeva and D.S. Kabdykesheva in the journal "Astana International University" on the topic "Development of social entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan".

The Higher School of Economics held a series of trainings on the topic from November 28 to December 02: "Development of soft skills. Financial literacy. Startup Entrepreneurship" for AIU students. Over the course of 5 days, students pumped such competencies as team building, communication and leadership, conflict management, negotiation and decision-making, time management, emotional intelligence, career planning, financial literacy, the basics of entrepreneurship and startup projects. The participants of the training participated in the analysis of various business cases, played motivational games and passed psychological testing. Upon completion of the program, each student was awarded a certificate.

The lectures were enthusiastically received by numerous young participants who were able to discuss with the Ambassadors the contribution that modern diplomacy can make to the development and promotion of the "System of Countries" abroad.

The National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken" and Astana International University signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

The purpose of the signed Memorandum of Cooperation is the formation of entrepreneurial thinking and entrepreneurial spirit among students, the creation of entrepreneurial skills during the period of study, the development of youth business activity and the popularization of the idea of mass entrepreneurship in Kazakhstan.

On December 6 - 7, 2022 associate professors of the Higher School of Natural Sciences Seitkan A.S. and Nurgalieva D.A. participated in a practical seminar on microscopy, spectral analysis and mechanical testing, organized by Melytec.

The seminar showed new equipment and methods in the field of chemical and structural analysis of materials, such as X-ray diffractometers and micro X-ray fluorescence spectrometers, optical emission spectrometers, IR-Fourier and Raman spectrometers. Equipment from various international companies, such as  Xenemetrix, Optosky, Emco-Test, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Trojan, Struers and a number of other manufacturers was presented.

 The workshop presented a unique opportunity - all equipment was available for demonstration and practical work. Innovative solutions in the field of elemental analysis and complex solutions for determining the mechanical properties of surfaces were shown on the instruments in the demo room.

It should be noted the great practical significance of the seminar. We thank the organizers and the university administration for the opportunity to get acquainted with the latest achievements in the field of chemical analysis.

On the first day of winter, the thematic event “Winter Ball” was held within the Decade of Languages.  The ball was organized by students of the department “Russian language and literature”. 

Winter Ball was held in three languages: Kazakh, Russian, English. Participants of the ball were the students of “Kazakh language and literature” and the students of 1, 2 courses of  “The Russian language and literature” departments, as well as  master students of  the English language department . 

Like any other holiday the Winter Ball was full of miracles! The winners of nominations were awarded with certificates: ‘the most charming smile’, ‘the best support group’, ‘the best expert’. 

And the ball culminated with the election of the King and Queen!  

The prizes were provided by the products of trade corporation branded clothing “QAZAQ REPUBLIC”. 

At the end of the ball, students and teachers were dancing waltz.

The public association “Center for Analysis and Strategy “Beles” became a laureate of the state award for NGOs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. When choosing the best NGOs, special attention was paid to the social significance of the project, as well as their contribution to solving social problems in various areas.⠀

The public association "Center for Analysis and Strategy "Beles" under the leadership of the President of Astana International University Serik Aztayevich Irsaliev was awarded a prize in the category for achieving goals in the field of education, science, information, physical culture and sports. ⠀

The purpose of the organization is to improve the standard of living and well-being of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of economic and social transformations. ⠀

The association has published the book Remake: Nation at risk - a local context, is a partner in organizing a free School of Social Entrepreneurship, and also conducts various research in the field of science and education.

Zhumagul Moldir Zhakypzhanovna senior teacher of the Higher School of Natural Sciences defended her thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) on "Ecomorphological and molecular genetic characteristics of the disappearing population of Rhodiola rosea L." in the specialty "6D060700 - Biology" at the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi. The defense was successful, and the dissertation council voted unanimously to award the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) 100%. The team of the Higher School of Natural Sciences congratulates Zhumagul Moldir Zhakypzhanovna with the highest level of creativity and development, with perfectly defended PhD.
